Lee Penhaligan
Lee works from our London Canary Wharf offices. She is a media and contract specialist, with over 20 years' experience dealing with publishers, photographers,photographic and advertising agencies, authors, artists and film, television and theatrical producers. the media generally and in particular in relation to copyright law
Lee trained at and was a Partner at media firm, Carter-Ruck, working in the property, litigation, probate and trust departments. This background enables Lee to help clients with a wide range of legal problems.
Lee’s background in media litigation gives her a unique insight in drafting and negotiating media and entertainment contracts. She has acted in many high profile deals, acting for companies, including Hello! and SHE magazines, literary property trusts, including the Terence Rattigan Charitable Trust and celebrities and authors.
Lee qualified as a Solicitor in 1990 with First Class Honours in the Solicitors' Finals examinations.
Lee can help with publishing, licensing, film, tv, merchandising agreements and the appointment of literary Executors by Will. Lee is well known for her expertise in copyright, has given lectures on the subject to journalists, and has been interviewed by ITN and Channel 4 as a copyright expert, and is co-author of the Copyright chapter of The Handbook of Creative Writing published by the Edinburgh University Press in 2007.
Although she does not take on conveyancing transactions, Lee has experience in property law and can advise joint ownership of property, and draft declarations of trust showing the joint owners' agreed shares. She can also assist clients with property disputes between joint owners and boundary disputes. Lee's knowledge of wills and probate also allows her to advise on probate disputes including Inheritance Act claims.
